7 Easy Tips To Refresh Your Home

by Admin on 12 April 2018

Have you been wandering around your home feeling like it’s looking a little drab and shabby of late? Now is the perfect time to give it a bit of a refresh before winter sets in and we all start to hibernate until the warmer weather returns. In the list below, we’ve outlined 7 of our easiest tips for refreshing your home – feel free to use as many (or as few) of them as you like!

Easy Tips To Refresh Your Home

  1. Clean and/or dust your fans
Most people avoid dusting their fans, because they feel like the dust just falls down on top of the beds and everything else below. Whilst this is true, the prospect of some extra cleaning shouldn’t deter you from giving the fans an occasional dust – besides, once you turn them on in the summer, the dust is going to go everywhere anyway.

  2. Dust blinds and windowsills
This is another of those seriously neglected areas in many homes. The furniture always seems to be in the way and it’s just a pain to get to. Cleaning the blinds and windowsills is not a particularly fun job, especially when trying to manoeuvre the vacuum around, but it will definitely improve the look of your house.

  3. Have a garage sale
Why not do a bit of a clean out and get rid of any items that you no longer need or want? Ask yourself if you really use a particular item (or if anyone in the family uses it). If not, ask yourself whether it has any sentimental value. If the answer to both these questions is no, why on earth are you holding on it? Sell it to someone who can use it.

  4. Rearrange the furniture
Don’t be afraid to try something new with your furniture. In fact, rearranging your furniture can actually make the rooms appear larger and less cluttered. The best way to proceed is to remove as much out of the room as possible, then start with placing the largest items first. If you need to repurpose a room, this is a great idea.

  5. Remove cobwebs
You’ll be surprised at how many cobwebs can accumulate over time. Now is the perfect time to get rid of all the sneaky cobwebs hiding in the corners and around the ceiling of your home. To reach those high spots, drape a dust cloth over the top of a broom then drag it along the corners and ceiling – it’ll work like a charm!

  6. Touch up your paint job
As you clean, you may spot dings and marks on your walls that you’ve previously overlooked or never really noticed. Why not take some time to run around with a paintbrush and touch up the paint job where required? Over time, knocks and bumps can damage paintwork and really take away from its fresh, clean appearance.

  7. Wash the baseboards, door frames and light switches
To clean the baseboards, just use a damp cloth. Pay close attention to the top ridge; you may want to use a broom or the brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner to go across the top before washing. Then move onto the light switches and the trim around the doors; they’re likely covered with unsightly fingerprints and smudges.

With the Easter long weekend on the horizon, why not use the extra free time to refresh your home and give it a new lease on life? Whether you’re updating other areas of the home and want to match or you’re just sick of it looking shabby, there are plenty of ways that you can go about giving it a refresh. You might find it quite relaxing and choose to do even more tasks.
